VELLAMO, SS1415

Emerging from a wintery, subterranean world of stalactites, Vellamo SS14/15 continues TD’s expedition through enchanted natural landscapes. Named for the Finnish sea goddess, Vellamo, this season’s aesthetic is an understated siren’s song. As thawing ice trickles and flows back to its source, TD’s new range scores the morphing topography and rejuvenating springs left in its wake.

In further collaboration with artist Naomi Bishop, subdued watercolour paintings of limestone pools, mineral baths and travertine rock formations are translated into effortlessly cool, yet seductive pieces.

A sensual mix of silk, linen and soft leather are crafted to float against the skin, like a spell containing the first warm days of spring. The season’s relaxed silhouette and striking embellishments — delicately cut, beaded silk overlays; leather harnesses adorned with glass bead clusters — combine to create a divine wardrobe equal to their mythic inspiration.

Conjuring the spirit of Ahtola — Vellamo’s undersea palace — the collection was shot by New York based photographer Luzena Adams in front of the National Gallery of Victoria’s iconic water wall. The event was featured as part of the Melbourne Now exhibition in 2014.
